THE FAMILY PROGRAM

RESTORING FAMILIES

Ben Richey Family Program exists to restore single mothers and their children with hope, comfort, and shelter while they locate resources they need to move toward successful independent living.

Relief and assistance are provided to single mothers from all walks of life so they can focus on resolving their individual crises and temporary family instability. While the mother works toward setting goals with the guidance of dedicated and supportive staff, she lives in a comfortable residential setting with her children.

Mothers and their children live in shared homes with private bedrooms and bathrooms that are assigned to their families. Mothers in the Program diligently work towards learning appropriate money management skills, parenting skills, job skills, and other areas of their lives in which their individual families need help. It is the goal of the Family Program that when the mother leaves our Program, she is able to support herself and her child(ren) without help from someone else.

Mothers also have the opportunity to work towards meeting the qualifications for moving into one of our ten independent living homes, which are located on the campus of Ben Richey Boys Ranch & Family Program. These homes are two-bedroom, one-bathroom individual homes and are for families who have successfully completed the group-living portion of our program and met the criteria for independent living.

Mothers in the Program work towards learning appropriate money management skills, parenting skills, job skills, and other areas of their lives in which their individual families need help. The Family Program offers:

A comfortable, home-like environment
Individualized case management
Money management training and guidance
Life skills training
Referrals to community resources
Recreational opportunities

FAMILY ADMISSION CRITERIA

To be considered for admission, moms must:

Be at least 18 years old
Be willing and able to work a full-time job (or in school full time and work part-time) after enrollment in the program
Be motivated to make some lasting changes in their lives
Be respectful of Ben Richey staff members and other residents
Be willing to participate in money management program, parenting classes, and other life skills classes
Be willing to set personal goals and actively work towards accomplishing them
Be willing to follow all rules of the program
Be able to get transportation to work, school, etc.

WE CANNOT ACCEPT

Moms who are NOT considered for admission include the following:

Under age 18
Unable or unwilling to hold a job
Have an extensive and recent criminal history involving violence, physical or sexual abuse/assaults, recent drug charges or theft of property or identity (determined on a case-by-case basis)
Have a recent drug or alcohol addiction (determined on a case-by-case basis)
Are a danger to themselves or others
Have children who are a danger to themselves or others
