House Parents are married couples who serve as surrogate parents for children at Ben Richey Boys Ranch. They should have deep compassion for children from difficult circumstances and a willingness to learn new parenting techniques to support those who have experienced trauma.
House Parents play a vital role in providing a nurturing and structured environment for children at Ben Richey Boys Ranch. Their key responsibilities include:
1. Creating a Safe and Supportive Home Foster a loving, stable, and secure home environment that promotes each child's well-being.
2. Providing Daily Care and Supervision Offer attentive, developmentally appropriate care while maintaining accountability for each child's whereabouts, activities, and needs both on and off campus.
3. Ensuring Child SafetyMaintain auditory and visual awareness, provide proper supervision, and intervene when necessary to protect each child from harm.
4. Understanding Individual NeedsStay informed about each child’s habits, interests, special needs, and any required accommodations to ensure personalized care.
5. Encouraging Growth and Development Promote independence through structured yet flexible activities while positively reinforcing efforts and accomplishments.
6. Coordinating Continuity of Care Communicate vital information about each child's progress, needs, and daily activities with Relief House Parents and staff.
7. Implementing Individualized Plans Actively participate in developing and following each child's Plan of Service to support their emotional, educational, and personal growth.
8. Facilitating Normal Childhood Experiences Ensure children have opportunities to engage in typical childhood activities, fostering a sense of normalcy and joy.
9. Managing Appointments and Health Needs Schedule and transport children to medical, dental, counseling, and other essential appointments.
10. Adhering to Standards and Regulations Maintain knowledge of and comply with all Minimum Standards related to caregiver duties and child welfare.
11. Maintaining Home and Campus GroundsOversee the upkeep of the assigned house vehicle and contribute to yard maintenance within a designated section of the campus.
12. Additional ResponsibilitiesPerform other duties as assigned by the Campus Director or Ranch President to support the program’s mission.
House Parents will receive a salary and living expenses, including an on-campus residence and house vehicle. Additional benefits include paid vacation time, sick leave, paid holidays, optional medical insurance benefits, and retirement.
