Combat Flying Meet
On Saturday, June 5th Ben Richey Boys Ranch hosted a Combat Flying Meet which included several National and World Champion control line combat competitors. Pilots came in from Houston, Dallas, Midland, and Oklahoma. They used World War II vintage fighter planes in the competition. Two pilots flew in a circle attempting to cut the crepe paper streamers behind the opponent’s plane. Each controller flew in five minute “dog fights” during the meet and were judged for their flying skills. These completion combat planes flew at 75 miles per hour while they performed various offensive and defensive maneuvers.
Our young men from Ben Richey Boys Ranch were able to participate and truly enjoyed flying along side the Combat Flying professional. A good time was had by all!
